Read and do this. Please. That’s the only time I’ll ask nicely.
Everything written on this site is my opinion and my opinion only (unless, obviously, it’s a comment – in which case, it is the opinion of the commenter). It is not your opinion, nor will it necessarily agree with your opinion. Sometimes, you may agree with me but think that I am expressing my opinion in a way that you may consider rude/horrible/offensive/something bad. That is not my problem (although you are terribly, terribly wrong – how do you live with yourself?). I am not you.
To quote John Scalzi, “Your being offended is not a reason for me to stop writing as I choose.” (Also, if you are a Scalzi fan, you will find this page rather familiar because I am basing my policies on his. I find him to be rather full of common sense and full of experience so as a result, I borrow copiously.)
I am not a nice person. (Just ask my husband.) I can be nice, but please don’t mistake that for being nice. Since I’m the writer of the site, the content will likely reflect such a character flaw and disposition. Also, I have a tendency to over use parentheses and commas. This will likely not change. Plan accordingly.
Please do comment if you so choose to. I love being the center of attention (within reason) and love when people are talking about what I’m talking about. Especially since I think I’m brilliant, I particularly endorse complimentary comments. But of course, that will not always be the case (truly a travesty), so I ask that in general, please be polite and courteous. (I will also try to do the same.)
If this is the first time you are commenting on my site, your comment will first kick to a moderation queue and I will get to it as quickly as possible. After your first comment, you should be in the clear and all future comments should post immediately. I will change this policy if I get to the point where I am so popular that this is an untenable task.
However, I reserve the right to edit all comments and moderate them as I see fit. Your comment will absolutely be edited if you refer to my husband and children by their real names. Your comment is more likely to be edited, moderated or deleted if it contains phobic content (based on race, sex, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, etc), is a personal attack or threat toward another commenter (especially my family), is entirely unrelated to the entry topic, features more than a “fair use” amount of someone else’s copyrighted work, is an obvious trolling comment, or if I just really, really, really can’t stand you anymore due to poor commenting choices on your part.
If these conditions are not acceptable to you, you do not have to comment.
Other than that, have at it! I find that most people are well-behaved and civil. Please don’t disappoint me.
